Memento

After watching Memento, It is now on my list of top ten movies of all time. This film stands out simply because of its never seen before way of beginning a film with the ending.( such as in the film Double Indemnity) Then the film brought the information of two story's involving the two main characters Leonard and Teddy and gave the viewers pieces of information to solve the case. I think this film was supposed to be left unsolved in a way because of Leonard's unique condition. Teddy ends up telling Leonard the truth, but the viewers have to question Teddy's honesty because of his motives in the past leading up to his revealing unanswered questions in Leonard's mind. In the end, I thought the lesson that the viewers were supposed to get out of it was that you should always try and find healthy motivation to help guide you through life.

Kiss Me Deadly

Kiss Me Deadly may have been one of the most random, confusing, and weird films I've ever seen. Mike Hammer plays the role of the dominate male trying to figure out and undue all the clues behind the murder of Cloris Leachman. Throughout the movie, Hammer finds himself seeking out random people for clues to this murder. In the end he is stuck with only one more clue, and that is the "Great Whatsit", a very weird, random box that is straight out of a scientific film.

Double Indeminity

A cheesy film is one thing, but a cheesy film that's interesting in another. I thought the film Double Indemnity was a interesting film that got the viewer thinking. There were many unique and surprising twists throughout the movie. Even thought Walter Neff was quit cheesy calling Phyllis Diestrichson "baby" constantly and lighting a match how no one else can do throughout the whole movie, I thought his acting was good for this movie. Also, I liked how the director began with the movie with the ending of the movie where Walter is talking on the phone to Keyes, this element of surprise gives the viewer information to think about throughout the whole film.

Groundhog day

Bill Murphy plays a successful weatherman(Phil) that dreads his Groundhog story in a little miserable town each year. However, after learning pretty much every little detail about that town by his unique way of living each day over, and over, and over again, Phil learns a lesson in life, and that's that he cant always be the hero, and he should just be himself and learn from his previous mistakes in life. An example of this is with the old man that Phil is trying to save, he is trying and trying to save him, but in the end, the old man has a destiny and Phil can't do anything about it. I thought this movie was pretty good, it had good comedy and in the end you learned what the big picture the director was trying to portray about Phil's life.

Once Upon a Time in the West

Straying from modern westerns, Once Upon a Time in the West has very similar characteristics in the way it was shot compared to the Kill Bill movies. This film had an interesting plot by intertwining both Harmonica and Jill to be going after the same goal- to get revenge on Jack-. Harmonica wanted revenge for Jack killing his older brother, which was recognized during the final shootout, and Jill for Jack killing her husband. Throughout the entire film motifs were used by each character having a different song that characterized their presence. Even though some parts of this movie could have been "left out," I thought Tarantino did a great job on making Once Upon a Time in the West.

Western

During the film My Darling Clementine, there was one scene in particular that caught my attention by its difference from all of the other scenes. I am talking about the scene when Clementine and the sheriff are walking to the newly built chapel, and what took place at the chapel.
This scene caught my attention because of the difference of using a camera on a track. This got me thinking that there has to be something significance to this part because of the use of tracking. I think that this shot was signifying the importance on "manifest destiny". I believe this because of the elements that were shown such as the new chapel just standing with a bell, the American flag that swayed throughout the shot once arriving at the chapel, and finally the celebration with dancing being taken place within the whole town.

Citizen Kane

An opening scene into a movie can be one of the most significant elements the director is trying to capture. An opening scene can tell key aspects of the film that may cross someones mind unconsciously.
Orson Welles did a unique job of elaborating an opening scene with his many uses of the camera angle and shot. We start the movie of with the audience looking at a sign with the word "KEEP OUT" posted. Right away, this sign may indicate many key aspects of Mr.Kane's life, whether it was that he was a shy quite person, or he was a shy violent person, no one knows yet from just this quick glance, but the audience is already making assumptions about Mr.Kane from just a picture of a simple sign.
Another key simple in the beginning of the film is when Wells uses a crane shot of moving up Mr.Kane's fence and slowing using a fading shot with the affect of zooming into his mansion. This fading shot is supposed to catch our eye with much knowledge of Kane's life. One may be that the shot is always faded with Kane's window always lit. Another detail may be the information of Kane's surroundings and his not well kept lawn.

Schindler's List(1993)

Keeping viewers intent on a film by integrating a complicated but unique plot in my belief is one of the most beneficial aspects as a viewer. Schindler's List does a wonderful job of created a non-simplistic plot with its many shocking surprises on human morality.
Schindler's List is based during the Holocaust during World War II. Oskar Schindler, a mild mannered man at first takes strides to save Jews under his own will. Oskar Schindler uses an ingenues idea to save as many Jews as he can by having as many Jews as he can work for him at his factory for producing cookware for the Nazi army. At first Oskar Schindler does not realize that when his employers are being taken by Nazi Amon Goeth they are being taken to concentration camps to be executed. After realizing that there is a mass killing of Jews taking place, he takes into action. Along with Oskar Schindler is his accountant, Itzhak Stern, who also is realizing that these concentration camps are immoral and unjust. Oskar Schindler begins his attempt to save as many Jews as he can by dis telling stories to Nazi commanders that whatever employees they want to take, they cant, because they are suitable and capable of work labor even though that is a lie. He continues to twist stories and lies to manipulate Amon Goeth.
This film did a great job of capturing the elements of making the picture seem somewhat documentary. As seen in the movie's Saving Private Ryan, Band Of Brothers, etc.. Schindler's list used that picture technique to make a more powerful picture, rather than the typical modern day films which seem to always have a pattern of the same picture elements. Also, to show the true brutality in this film, many, many scenes showed very disturbing acts that the Nazi's used on the Jews in the concentration camps. It seemed so inhuman how the Nazi's treated Jewish people by acting like a genocide was no big deal and having no second thought on that it is in-ethical was just astounding.
Schindler's List impacted me in many ways, whether it was the affect of how someone can be so brave to risk their own life to save thousands of other lives, or whether it was how shocking it was to see how Innocent people such as Jewish people were being killed in the Nazi genocide of the Holocaust.

Good Will Hunting: Intertwinning two mens paths

A good movie will leave a film go-er with a sense of satisfaction, however, a great movie will leave a film go-er with not only the sense of satisfaction, but also interesting interpretations for scenes of the film and emotionally attached thoughts with characters.

Good Will Hunting, directed by Gus Van Sant, left me with the satisfaction of a great movie in my presence. I think that this film is far by one of the best films ever produced. Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Ben Affleck, Stellan Skarsgard, Minnie Driver, Casey Affleck, and Cole Hauser all incorporate incredible acting skills on-screen. Matt Damon does a astounding job of creating an emotionally fictional world for the film go-Er's to connect too.

No matter how many times I watch this movie it never gets dull. Over and over I can watch this film as a form of inspiration or just plain entertainment. I believe this film should be seen by anyone interested in a original film.

I have watched and read about the new box summer hit movie 300. After watching this film i was speechless in its high quality action scenes and very unique way of portraying the picture. Throughout this page I will be elaborating on the terms of a critic and my feedback of the film 300.

The story is pretty simple, so those looking for Rome-like palace intrigue
and dialogue-heavy skullduggery will more than likely be disappointed. While
it's a no-brainer to say that guys will love the action and gals will love the
guys onscreen, there's actually something for everyone in 300. (Fans of science
fiction will be more than pleased: Creepy creatures and impossible characters
abound.)

In this review that i have read, I have agreed with many of this critics feedback. This critic agrees that the movie 300's story line is quit simple to understand and straightforward. This movie really reeled me in with its amazing action scenes and the use of showing off a picture almost as the same as in the movie sin city.

The images are crisp and clear,
and the gritty color palette manages to be beautiful in spite of its muted hues.
The soundtrack is appropriately rousing, and the costumes (well, what there are
of them) are scissor-shear sharp, with an awe-inspiring attention to
detail.

This quote clearly identifies one of the main aspects that makes this film so astonishing. This critic explains how the use of this particular art form into the movie stands out above the rest. It elaborates on the use of the amazing forms of sound, picture, and quality sound effects. Consequences of forming Spartans in this film were clearly cut out of the "fiction" side of this piece of history. Spartans were not seen as wearing nothing but a helmet and boots, Spartans mainly wore full on heavy metal steal clothing for their protection in battle. Nevertheless, by 300 not using factual clothing, I think it brought out a much more intense and powerful view upon the glorious characters sought out to be "Spartans."

Although this film is not a hard film to understand or follow, there are many aspects about this film that produce amazing results and reviews from critics and movie go-ers. I really enjoyed watching this film, mostly because of the hardcore action and picture sequences that are shown.
